MAME now available on the iPad via iMAME4all

One of the great thing about having a jail-broken iPad is access to the Cydia store. For those who don't know, the Cydia store is where you'll find apps that Apple has not, or would never approve in the regular App Store. Cydia is basically where you find all the COOL stuff that Apple won't let you play with.

Today I found a new app for the iPad. It's call iMAME4all. Firstly, MAME is actually an acronym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, and it allows you to play real arcade games on any machine that will run it. Just add ROM files and your good to go.

Another great thing about MAME is that it's open source software. This should work almost perfectly with my R-Cade project too!

Someone actually built an iPad Arcade Cabinet

Hey, it looks like we didn't have to wait too long for someone else to make an iPad arcade cabinet. A UK company, Freekade.com builds small desktop/tabletop arcade cabinets and put one together for the iPad. It's up for auction right now on ebay UK.

Seeing one built provides a proof of concept for my own 'R-Cade' project. Keep following along, I've got a big announcement coming up!

App Review: Duck Hunt: The Game

Anyone who ever owned or enjoyed a friends original Nintendo game system probably has fond memories of the good old days, when Mario and Luigi ate mushrooms and jumped their way to save the princess. Well, probably sitting next to that game system was the Duck Hunt cartridge and that bright orange gun used to shot down as many ducks as possible all the while being laughed at every time you missed by your own hunting dog. If you're like me, and suffer feelings of nostalgia for a simpler time than you're in luck. Duck Hunt is available right now, for free. I'm not sure how long it will be free, but you might as well grab while you can.

It is an iPhone/Touch app, but with the quality of video games back then, this game still looks great 2x'ed.
